Import from Postman

FleetFoot takes your data as Postman exports it and keeps all of it, including what it does not use yet.

Get the data out of Postman

Everything at once. In Postman open Settings → Data → Export Data. Postman e-mails you a link to a .zip. Drop that .zip into FleetFoot as is.

One collection. Click … next to the collection → Export → Collection v2.1.

Environments. Open Environments, click … next to one → Export.

Current values are not exported

Postman keeps “current values” of variables only on your computer, so they are not in any export. After the import, check tokens and passwords: they may be empty.

Import

Press ⌘O or click Import from Postman, then:

  • drop files, a folder or the .zip onto the window, or
  • click Choose files… or Choose a folder…, or
  • click Paste JSON and paste a collection or an environment.

FleetFoot recognizes the content, not the file name, so files can be called anything. It understands:

WhatNotes
Collections v2.0 and v2.1folders, requests, auth, variables, scripts, saved examples
Environments and globalsglobals are merged into FleetFoot’s globals
The full data export (.zip)everything inside is imported
Postman API responses{"collection": …} and {"environment": …}

Collections in the old v1 format are not supported: export them from Postman again as v2.1.

The import report

After an import FleetFoot shows what happened:

  • Imported — collections with their requests and folders, environments.
  • Kept, but not supported yet — things FleetFoot stores but does not run yet, such as pre-request scripts and tests or OAuth 2.0. They are not lost: they stay with the request.
  • Skipped — files that are not Postman data, with the reason.

Importing the same collection again adds a second copy; the report says so.

What happens to scripts

Pre-request scripts and tests are kept with their requests and can be viewed in the Scripts tab, but FleetFoot does not run them yet.

Undefined variables after an import

A collection often uses variables that lived in a Postman environment, such as {{baseUrl}}. Right-click the collection → Undefined variables… to see all of them and give them values in one go. See Variables and environments.
